Patrick Giam, MD, FASA, President, American Society of Anesthesiologists
Patrick Giam, M.D., FASA, is resident of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and a physician partner of U.S. Anesthesia Partners. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University and his medical degree from Baylor College of medicine. He completed his internship and residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a fellowship at the Texas Heart Institute.
Dr. Giam’s clinical practice has been focused on neuroanesthesia, and liver transplantation. He holds clinical appointments at Weill Cornell Medical College, Houston Methodist Academic Institute, and Texas A&M School of Medicine. Dr. Giam has been active in physician leadership and organized medicine throughout his career. He led his anesthesia practice as Division Chief, and Houston Methodist Hospital as Medical Director and Deputy Chair. He served the State of Texas through the Medical Disclosure Panel for the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists; he is a member of the Board of Directors and was President in 2009.
Dr. Giam has served ASA in numerous leadership roles, most recently as president elect, first vice president and chief of the Division of Administrative Affairs. He has been a member of the ASA Board of Directors, the Anesthesia Quality Institute, and ASAPAC.
